1. Social Studies

People have always used stories to teach and to remember. Welcome to Teddy Academy social studies program. Learning comes alive through storytelling, literacy instruction, and flexible resources. Stories from our world engage students and help develop thoughtful, literate citizens. Lessons apply inquiry processes, practice reading and writing, and involve collaboration and communication skills. Blended learning experiences include an interactive Student Worktext and digital courseware. Share the story of our democratic ideals, communities, and people!

Children have a natural curiosity about their surroundings-a desire to explore and investigate, see inside things, find out how things work and find answers to their questions. Learning about science provides a framework for students to understand and interpret the world around them. An elementary science program in Teddy Academy engages students in a process of inquiry and problem solving in which they develop both knowledge and skills. The purpose of the program is to encourage and stimulate children’s learning by nurturing their sense of wonderment, by developing skill and confidence in investigating their surroundings and by building a foundation of experience and understanding upon which later learning can be based.

Each fall Arbor Heights 2nd-graders participate in a DISCOVER Dance Residency with the Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNB). For two months, students participate in two 30-45-minute dance classes each week with a PNB teaching artist. During the residency, students learn dance and choreographic concepts. As they progress, each classroom creates a dance to perform on stage at McCaw Hall.
